North Charleston, SC, Presents Gullah Fiber Exhibit
In celebration of Black History Month, the North Charleston Cultural Arts Department will present the Gullah Fiber Art Exhibition, at the North Charleston City Gallery located at the Charleston Area Convention Center, in North Charleston, SC, from Feb. 1-28, 2006.
Local Gullah singer
and storyteller, Sharon Murray, will curate a collection of handmade
quilts and dolls created by residents of the Sea Islands. Through
traditional Gullah techniques and craftsmanship each work tells
a unique story. The Gullah traditions are alive and well in the
Lowcountry and are now recognized by Congress as a valuable heritage
that must be preserved as a living part of our nation's history.
