February Issue 2006
Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Laurie Richardson, Sheryl Stalnaker and Dru Warmath
Providence Gallery in
Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce a three-women show of new
works by Laurie Richardson, Sheryl Stalnaker and Dru Warmath.
The three artists' paintings will be on view through Feb. 28,
2006.
The show combines bold compositions and colors with rich textural
paintings in both oil and pastels. The exhibition will also showcase
Providence Gallery's newly expanded gallery space, featuring local
and regional artists.
Laurie Richardson graduated from the University of Georgia with
a BFA in Graphic Design and after years of being an art director
and free-lance designer, she began to teach art to children and
paint full-time. Richardson uses pastels and oils to express her
favorite elements of art, color and composition. Richardson explains,
"Color can express so many different moods and an unusual
composition lets one see the ordinary in an extraordinary way.
To express without words a certain feeling is one of my greatest
joys as an artist."
Sheryl Stalnaker explores
the landscape, architecture and still life in oil, capturing the
mood and light of her chosen subject. She paints primarily with
a palette knife, achieving a rich and vibrant textural element
in her paintings. Stalnaker combines plein air painting with studio
work which she feels helps her to engage all of her senses in
the creation of her art. A graduate of the University of Washington,
Stalnaker's award winning paintings have been shown in juried
shows such as the Telfair Museum of Art Fair in Savannah, GA,
and the Piccolo Spoleto Exhibitions in Charleston, SC, along with
galleries in the Southeast.
Dru Warmath's paintings of the female figure portray a search
for a mood or deeper emotion, a moment to be shared by viewer
and artist and a relationship to be seen and felt through color
and line. Warmath received her education at the University of
South Carolina. She works primarily in watermedia and oil.
Honored as a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Warmath's work is included in many private and corporate collections. Working as a professional artist since 1992, Warmath has taught classes at the Mint Museum and Queens College and through her studio in Charlotte. The focus of her work is creating vibrant rhythms of color relationships throughout carefully constructed compositions.
