Spencer Galleries in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Jim Nicholson
Jim Nicholson, local career wildlife artist who has previously exhibited in the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, presents new paintings in the exhibit, Wildlife at Spencer Galleries, at the Spencer Art Gallery II, in Charleston, SC, from Feb. 1 - 28, 2006.
A graduate of Pratt Institute, Nicholson's paintings reflect his years of being an outdoorsman and a highly successful competitive shooter. He is considered to be a master at painting wildlife, including birds, deer, bird dogs in action, ducks, geese, etc.
"Nicholson's paintings
have that spark of realism, that time and place, that so many
wildlife artists fail to capture. To any avid hunter or wildlife
enthusiast, Jim's paintings convey that definite feeling 'wish
I had been
there, seen that' ", says Jerry Spencer, gallery owner.
"I like to seize
one sharp instant in nature and show that moment by means of shape
and space relationships. I simplify and accent the use of color
and pattern to create a painting that will stand independently,"
says
Nicholson. "To succeed in my intention, I must capture the
beauty, the mystery and the
timelessness of that instant."
