Sunset River Studio in Calabash, NC, Features Retrospective by Ramona Batsford Bendin
Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, has opened a second facility called Sunset River Studio. The new facility will offer a wide range of workshops as well as a 2,700 square-foot rental space for meetings, luncheons, business functions and other events. The Studio's first event will be a retrospective of works by North Carolina oil painter, Ramona Batsford Bendin, on view through Feb. 28, 2006.
The retrospective will include work from Bendin's early days of painting as well as some of the award-winning pieces painted throughout her career.
Ramona Batsford Bendin has been painting for over 45 years. Today she works primarily in oil, and is well known for her seascapes and marshland scenes of the East Coast - particularly the Carolinas where she now resides.
Bendin is the daughter of cartoonist Ben Batsford who inked the 1920's comic strip, Little Annie Rooney. She attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and later studies at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League in New York City.
Bendin has continued to explore concepts with other artists including the late George Gach, David Leffel, Joe Hing Lowe, Ferdinand Petrie and Perry Austin. In addition, she conducts her own workshops and teaches oil painting at Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash.
Bendin is a lifetime member of the American Artist Professional League and was also elected to New York's prestigious Hudson Valley Art Association. In North Carolina she belongs to the Wilmington Art Association, Waterway Art Association and the Associated Artists of Southport. Her peers have awarded her many honors, including several Awards of Excellence and Best in Show honors.
Bendin's work may also be seen at Sunset River Marketplace. Visitors are also welcome (by appointment) at her home studio.
