Lorna Wang
Wang's exhibition How Are You Feeling?, features encaustic and mixed media paintings created while Wang was in residence at Artspace as the Regional Emerging Artist in Residence (July 2006-Jan. 2007).
Wang has spent the past four years studying the encaustic medium. A recent graduate of East Carolina University, Wang works with encaustic, a beeswax-based paint, on panels along with other media including oils and collage. She often approaches her pieces as a narrative of emotional vulnerability, often utilizing text and symbolism.
Annette Rogers (detail)
Annette Rogers' Fabrications presents a new series of work exploring surface texture and mixed media.
Rogers is a painter and fiber artist. For many years the two media were kept as separate ways of working. However, recently for Rogers, the lines between the two have become blurred, as painting has crossed over to fabric, and the exploration of layers used in her paintings are now part of her fiber works. Rogers is most interested in the use of texture - built up, removed, distressed - which reveals a rich and complex surface that invites the viewer in for a closer look.
Rogers has lived in Raleigh since 1966 and has been a member of the Artspace Artists Association since 1989. Her work is in numerous collections nationally.
