Plum Elements in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by R. Royall Seabrook

Plum Elements in downtown Charleston, SC, foreshadows the beginnings of spring with a special exhibition of work by R. Royall Seabrook. The show, Change in Motion, will be on view from Feb. 14 - 28, 2007.

This collection of Seabrook's work features butterflies in acrylics and collage. It's a colorful interpretation of natural and organic shapes interwoven with found objects bringing a whimsical and colorful element to nature. The butterflies alight the canvas, providing the viewer a glimpse of another time and others the consideration of transformation or their point in the life cycle. The addition, hand-written notes to friends since passed on adds a poignant touch to the work in the show.

Asked about his work, Seabrook talks about his endeavor to portray a tranquility, which often eludes our daily lives for the constant demands and input of information. He is most interested in the viewer making his work theirs, finding their own perspective - provoking their imagination. For this reason, Seabrook does not title his work. He has said, "The lack of titles often disturbs the public but I purposefully try not to give the viewer a preconceived idea of what they are looking at".

Having lived in Paris for the last 16 years, Seabrook's work has long been exhibited in Paris and is many collections in London and Paris, including the British Embassy in Paris.
