February Issue 2007
Points of View Photography Gallery in Raleigh, NC, Presents Exhibit by New Gallery Artists
Points of View Photography Gallery in Raleigh, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Crossing Cultures, on view through Feb. 25, 2007. The exhibit includes works by Titus Brooks Heagins, John N. Wall and Victor Friedmann, all new to the gallery.
Crossing Cultures
features the documentary work of three North Carolina photographers
who set out to capture the rich socio-economic and spiritual diversity
of the world's people. Including Persian artisians from Iran,
practitioners of Santeria in Cuba, farmers from North Carolina,
humble portraits from Burma and street scenes from Europe, the
exhibit reveals views of everyday experiences, some familiar and
some enlightening, but all deeply human in their individual engagement.
Titus Brooks Heagins received his BA Degree from Duke University
in Political Science, and his MFA from the School of Art and Design,
University of Michigan. The core of his photographic work is "documenting
the lives and experiences of people of color throughout the world."
Heagins has exhibited extensively and is included in the collections
of the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum of African American Art and
History in Washington, and in the North Carolina Museum of Art.
John N. Wall is an artist and educator engaged in documentary and fine art photography. His work has been exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the southeast and has won numerous awards. Wall has received an Emerging Artists Grant from the United Arts Council of Wake County and has work included in private collections across the country. Wall's work seeks out especially "moments that comment on the changes and chances of life."
Victor Friedmann has been interested in photography since childhood, but it is his career in geophysics and oil exploration that has allowed him to visit exotic places around the world and document their cultures. Friedmann spends a great deal of time becoming familiar with a foreign environment in order to best capture its essence. This exhibit features his photographs from Burma and Iran.
