Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, NC, Offers Works by Alice Payne
The Tryon Painters & Sculptors will present the exhibit, The World Through My Lens, featuring photography by Alice Payne at the Tryon Fine Arts Center's Gallery 1 in Tryon, NC, from Feb. 4 - 27, 2007.
The exhibit will include portraits of pets and people along with nature shots. Payne's photos are captured in that one special moment that all photographers wait for.
Payne quotes Ansel Adams in explaining what sets her work apart from the ordinary, "Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter". (This is how Payne feels about her photography.) Whether she's making pictures of a wildflower by a roadside, and a sunbeam suddenly provides the perfect lighting, or while taking a picture of a dog or a cat who suddenly gives her that special look, Payne feels that she was meant to be the one to "click the shutter".
Payne, who resides in Tryon, states that "there are always two people in the picture, the photographer and the viewer". It is her goal to bring you, the viewer, into the moment. To make you smile at the antics of a kitten or a puppy - to let you stop and look deeply into the delicate beauty of a white trillium in a quiet mountain glen - to let you enjoy a mischievous Persian playing with his special toy - or perhaps you'll smile and laugh at the silly grin of a terrier or empathize with that very dignified Boston Terrier who finds herself wearing a toboggan hat!
The sense of humor and depth of emotion with which Payne works can transfer the viewer into her world, to be touched in a special way. The sensitivity which she brings into her portraits of people can leave the viewer either nostalgic or amused. It is the relatedness of the subject and viewer that remains Payne's focus. She states, "if my photography helps you capture a special moment of your own and hold it forever, I am truly honored".
Payne's nature photographs and pet portraits have been exhibited extensively throughout western North Carolina with her work selected for both gallery and private collections. One-woman exhibitions include shows at the Barnes & Noble, NC Arboretum, Lanier Library and Essence Day Spa.
