Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, is pleased to show new work by Robert M. Sweeny, on view through Feb. 28, 2007.
Sweeny has amassed an impressive number of awards, as well as a loyal following. His work is included in collections from New York to California and can be found in the permanent collections of the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston and the Bascom-Louise Gallery in Highlands, NC, as well as numerous private collections, including that of the president of the College of Charleston. In 2004, Sweeny was honored to be the first recipient of the Michael and Donna Griffith Artists Grant administered by the Coastal Community Foundation.
Sweeny's work is very detailed in realization, based primarily on his photographs of architectural subject matter, and executed in mixed mediums on both paper and canvas. Many of his images are from photographs taken in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where he spends several months a year.
Sweeny holds a BFA in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design and has studied with such varied artists as Harry Callahan, Dale Chihuly, Ed Rice, Ron Pokrasso, and Rhett Thurman.
