Celebration of Quilts Returns to Charleston, SC, Mar. 1 - 2, 2008
Sponsored by the Cobblestone Quilters Guild, A Celebration of Quilts 2008 - Charleston Revisited, will be held at the Gaillard Auditorium in downtown historic Charleston, SC on Mar. 1-2, 2008. This event will feature national known quilter Anita Shackelford as well as over 250 quilts from local and regional artists. Quilts to be exhibited will include antique quilts, bed-size quilts, wall quilts and wearable art.
Also on display will be the 2008 Cobblestone Quilters Guild donation quilt created using reproduction antique Civil War fabric found in the Charleston area. The Charleston fabric collection used for the quilt was duplicated by Judie Rothermel from old wall paper sample books and English and French fabrics which were available between 1830 and 1870. The quilt was designed and constructed by the Night Heron Quilt group.
At the show a silent auction of quilts and quilt related items will be held to benefit the Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, the area's only nationally accredited therapeutic horseback riding center which works to improves the lives of children and adults with disabilities by riding and working with horses.
Anita Shackelford has been a quilt maker since 1967 and began teaching in 1980. She is an internationally recognized teacher and lecturer who enjoys combining applique and fine hand quilting to create new quilts in 19th century style. Her quilts have been exhibited in shows across the world, winning many awards. She has been published in many magazines and has several books to her credit. Shackelford will be teaching four full-day classes in February.
