Center for Craft Creativity & Design in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Works by Blue Ridge Artists
The Center for Craft Creativity & Design in Hendersonville, NC, is pleased to present the exhibition Blue Ridge Residencies, on view from Feb. 5 through May 9, 2008.
Recognized as a birthplace of artistic tradition, The Blue Ridge Mountains are also a hotbed of ingenuity! Generations of artists and craftspeople have converged in this area seeking artistic inspiration, many inevitably making their homes here.
Today, the Blue Ridge Mountains are home to over 4,000 craftspeople and some of the best craft schools in the country. These internationally renowned schools offer a variety of classes and more intensive Artist-in- Residence programs. The residencies provide not only state-of-the art facilities and affordable accommodations but also immersion in a creative community, of focused, responsible, like-minded professionals, where fearless experimentation is embraced. In such expansive environments, artists act as both recipients and disseminators of inspiration and information, cultivating those qualities in others. As a result, these artists have evolved and developed their own personal style.
Blue Ridge Residencies
showcases an eclectic array of ceramics, furniture, glass, mixed
media, personal adornment and wood, created by several talented
Artists-in-Residence during their artistic flourishing (2006 and
2007). Featured artists include: Jill Baker Gower, Brian Taylor
and Benjamin Strear (Arrowmont); Emily Reason and Pablo Soto (EnergyXchange);
Joy Tanner and Leslie Theriault (Odyssey); and Vivian Beer, Thor
Bueno, and Anne Lemanski (Penland). These works represent not
only the fruits of their labor, during a critical period of artistic
experimentation and development, but also excellence in craftsmanship,
concept and execution. Many of the works will be for sale.
The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design
is an inter-institutional center of the University of North Carolina,
