Café Verde in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Schelly Keefer
Schelly Keefer will present the exhibit, Paintings
in the Key of Life, at Café Verde, located inside Talley's
Green Grocery, in Charlotte, NC, from Mar. 1 through Mar. 31.
Keefer grew up in the countryside, three miles outside the small
town of Rocky Ridge, MD. This rural upbringing remains a strong
influence in both her life and work. After attaining her Fine
Arts degree from Southern Seminary in Virginia, Keefer lived and
worked in many places, from Mt. Saint Helens (she was there when
the volcano blew) to the historic Gettysburg area. Living and
working in NYC was also a challenge, followed by her move to North
Carolina. Once in Charlotte, Keefer acquired a second degree in
Interior Design, which helped refine her sense of design and perspective.
Talking about her work, Keefer said, "I paint because I feel compelled to express my feelings and share my observations about a time, place or person. Images call out to me to capture them on paper. I've had paints and pastels on my hands since I was a child and the fascination has never waned. My mediums include watercolor and pastel, my style can vary from Realistic to soft Impressionism. My subjects vary from the people and streets of New York's Times Square to the hills and streams of my native Maryland. I work to convey to the viewer the essential nature of the subject as it is revealed to me. If one of my paintings reveals the subject to you in a new way, or strikes a chord of recognition in you, then I have succeeded in my role of visual storyteller."
Talley's Green Grocery is located at 1408-C East Blvd. in Charlotte. They are open Mon. through Sat., from 7;30am to 9pm and Sun., from 10am to 6pm.
