Christa Faut Gallery in Cornelius, NC, Shows Work of Maja Godlewska
The Christa Faut Gallery in Cornelius, NC, just outside of Charlotte, is presenting the exhibit, Body and Other Objects of Desire, featuring acrylic paintings by Maja Godlewska. The exhibit will continue through Mar. 21, 2000.
Body, as material substance of the human being and the symbolism of this most fundamental possession, is the subject matter for Godlewska's newest works. Substance and symbolism are also represented by the juxtaposition of mediums used: quite traditional acrylic, gold leaf and Carolinian red clay.
"Our body - naked, dressed or adorned, makes a statement about our position in society, despite whether one lives under a communist regime, a poor African country, or in prosperous America," says Godlewska. "No matter what religion, or lack of, how poor or wealthy the society might be, humans signalize their importance, position and influence by displaying status symbols - possessions. This of course, incorporates our looks. Objects of desire may vary from a nut-shell bowl to a crystal chandelier. Their value is relative."
