March Issue 2000
Works by Lese Corrigan at Footlight Players Theater in Downtown Charleston, SC
Preservation, an exhibition of oil paintings of Charleston architecture by Lese Corrigan will be on view at the Footlight Players Theater in the historic French Quarter area of Charleston, SC. The exhibit, will be displayed in the theater's Dubose Heyward Hall from Mar. 9 through Mar. 28, 2000.
Corrigan has been exhibiting work for eleven
years. Work includes landscape and architectural views of Charleston
in an impressionist, expressionist style with a textured, vivid
use of color bringing new meaning to local color. The artist feels
visual creations are a search for expression of the truth and
unnoticed beauty which lies in every scene and object around us
and emphasizes the need to preserve our surroundings.
Corrigan is a Charleston native who has been painting, photographing
and sculpting since she was ten. The last fourteen years have
found her immersed in the world of art. She acts as a consultant
to artists and visual arts organizations and as of 1997 she began
writing art reviews and is currently showing her work at The Elizabeth
O'Neill Verner Gallery as well as managing the gallery. She is
in her thirteenth year of teaching drawing, painting and photography
at the Gibbes Museum Studio.
The artist received commissions from The Center for Women, The Lowcountry Heritage Society and Coca Cola (for a painting for Former First Lady Barbara Bush). The Lowcountry Heritage Society commissions were for poster images for their multimedia events, encouraging artists to continue Lowcountry themes.
The Footlight Players Theater will be open Mon. through Sat., from noon to 5pm during the run of the exhibit. For further information check our SC Institutional Gallery listings or call the artist at 843/577-7623.
