Red Door Gallery in Downtown Anderson, SC, Features Sculptural Works by John Acorn

*

The Red Door Gallery in downtown Anderson, SC, will present an exhibit entitled, John Acorn Past & Present, from Mar. 17 through Apr. 29, 2000. The exhibition will present older works produced by the artist as well as recent creations.

Acorn is a sculptor who resides in Pendleton, SC. He recently retired from Clemson University's Art Department after thirty-six years on the faculty. He served as chairman of the Art Department for more than twenty years.

Acorn's guidance as an early, active member of the South Carolina Guild of Artists helped the guild, and other regional arts organizations, build support and audiences for professional artists in the state. His support extended to the Anderson Art Center, the Blue Ridge Arts Center, and most recently, the Pickens County Museum through the loan of his extensive African art collection.

When not teaching at Clemson University, Acorn has taught at MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire, the Penland School in NC, and the SC Governor's School for the Arts in Greenville.

Acorn has commissioned work at USC-Sumter, Charleston International Airport, Liberty Life Insurance Company in Greenville, and the Ahavath Synagogue in Atlanta, GA. His most recent exhibit was seen at the Greenville County Museum of Art in Greenville. In 1998, Acorn received SC's most prestigious award, the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award, for his contributions to the arts.
