Charleston, SC's City Gallery Presents Works by Yvette Dede

The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, will present Eggs an exhibit of mixed media by local artist Yvette Dede from Mar. 9 through Apr. 10.

Dede, an artist, has been residing in Charleston since Aug. 1991. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA in 1983. In 1987, she moved to New Orleans where she studied glassblowing and sculpture at Tulane University for three years.

Dede is currently teaching drawing at the College of Charleston. She has been on the South Carolina Artist in Education roster since 1993 and has participated in numerous artist in resident programs statewide. Dede has worked with the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs' Storefront School for the Arts and the Charleston County School District's gifted and talented program, S.P.A.C.E. She is a visual arts instructor for Creative Sparks and the Gibbes Museum Studio.

Dede comments on her work: "The works enclosed are spiritual exploration using the egg as metaphor for that expression. I chose the ubiquitous chicken egg for its beautiful form and for its accessibility as an object. The capacity to evolve towards spiritual awakening or recognition lies within us all. The egg with its profound simplicity represents to me pure potential, mystery, life and embodied spirit. This concept is a figurative expression of my musings on the mystical tension between the material, the physical, and the spiritual, and of my deep appreciation for the apparent intelligence which guides all things."
