Full Circle Arts in Hickory, NC, Features Works by Members

Full Circle Arts in Hickory, NC, will be having their Exhibiting Members Show in the Window Gallery, which will be on view through Mar. 24. This show will include works by Don Olsen, Judy Rider and Norma Suddreth, three of Full Circle Arts exhibiting members.

Don Olsen uses the lathe like a potter's wheel to gently turn and shape green wood from poplar, maple, oak, and crabapple trees grown in North Carolina into works of art. Creating form with function, Olsen's woodturnings reflect both the beauty and the quirks of nature. His work has been exhibited in several juried shows, including the Rowan County Mayfest Spring Arts Festival Show where his work earned first place honors.

Judy Rider is an award winning watermedia painter whom has been exhibiting her art since 1987. She is a member of The Watercolor Society of NC, Piedmont Painters, Catawba Valley Visual Art League, Full Circle Arts, and the Charlotte Art League. Her original paintings are in private homes and businesses from New York to California, Mexico, France and Germany. Rider has studied with many professional artists and continues to achieve a higher level of artistic expression with self-study. Before moving to Hickory in 1991, Rider and her family lived in Greenbrier County, WV. Her style reflects her life and travel in this area and throughout the South.

Norma Suddreth will be presenting her works based on Native America Indians. Suddreth is a native of Caldwell County, NC. She specializes in watercolor medium and papermaking. One aspect of her art is doing research on Native American Culture, especially Cherokee women. Several years ago she was granted permission to appear before the tribal council of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation and received written blessing to document, through papermaking, the last Beloved Woman of the Cherokee Nation, Nan-Ye-Hi.
