Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, to Host High School Art Exhibit
The 24th Annual South Carolina High School Juried Art Competition will be held at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, from Mar. 8 through Apr. 4 in the College's A.J. Eastwood Library Art Gallery.
The High School Juried Art Competition is a competitive exhibition sponsored by Limestone College and is open to all sophomore, junior and senior high school students enrolled in an art class during the current school year. Limestone College Art Professor Andy Cox explained that 57 works were chosen for display from over 200 entries from 10 area schools.
"This is Limestone's largest exhibit of the year, both in number of works and in attendance, with a diversity of media, subject matter and aesthetics. It's a wonderful show of high school student work," Cox commented.
Professional artist Daniel Cromer served as the competition's juror, selecting the work that will be displayed in the exhibition.
"The more that 200 student entries showed a range of style and craft which made it very easy for me to select a varied exhibition," Cromer explained. "I think that the 57 examples chosen were of excellent quality and interest; from realism to expressionism, to assemblage, to abstraction, and in various media including pencil, watercolor, acrylic, oil, clay, ceramic and fiber.
A native of Spartanburg, SC, Cromer holds and Honors degree from the Art Center School in Los Angeles. Cromer's work is represented internationally in many private and public collections.
"This year, I mark the 50th anniversary of my graduation from Spartanburg High School," Cromer stated. "It is quite evident that the state of art education has vastly improved over the intervening years. Many, if not most, of the students represented here could easily be on their way to a career in the wide and expanding world of professional art."
The public is invited to attend an awards ceremony on Mar. 11, from 2-3pm in the A.J. Eastwood Library Art Gallery.
