Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC, Features Ceramic Sculpture Exhibition
Jun Kaneko
Elizabeth Stone Harper Gallery at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC, presents a dynamic large scale ceramic sculpture exhibit by two outstanding sculptors, internationally known ceramic artist Jun Kaneko and his former student, emerging close behind, artist Ralph Pàquin. The exhibition is being presented in conjunction with the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) annual convention taking place in Charlotte, NC, on Mar. 28-31. The exhibition will be on view through Apr. 1.
This gallery is pleased to announce that both artists are exhibiting new works, fresh out of the firing kiln. The works in this exhibit offer an interesting collection and observation of eclectic influences, both as mentor and student, which is evident through the sense of scale and as individual artists developing their own language.
Ralph Pàquin
Kaneko's graphic simplicity and animated expression of pattern as a design element is quite appealing. Pàquin's challenging surreal installation of varied figurative forms is intriguing and thoughtful.
Kaneko was Artist-in-Resident at Cranbrook Academy of Art where Pàquin was a graduate student. Pàquin currently teaches ceramics at Presbyterian College.
