March Issue 2002
Columbia College in Columbia, SC, Offers Exhibit Covering Race Issues - in the Gallery and in Online Exhibit
The Goodall Gallery at Columbia College in
Columbia, SC, will host the exhibit, Lines Drawn: Issues of
Race in Contemporary South Carolina Art, on view through Mar.
22.
Lines Drawn is a combined gallery and virtual exhibit that
explores the issue of race in current South Carolina art. The
Department of Art at Columbia College will present the paintings,
drawings, and installations of Tyrone Geter and Tonya Gregg, who
are both on the art faculty at Benedict College. Issues of ethnicity
and race are a central part of the work of both artists and are
dealt with in a sensitive but forthright way.
The virtual exhibit, which is available at (http://www.columbiacollegesc.edu/academic/art/linesdrawn.html) will feature South Carolina artists from diverse backgrounds who deal with issues of race in their artwork. It also includes resources on national artists who focus on similar themes. The virtual exhibit will remain available online after the end of the gallery exhibit as a resource for education and further dialogue on the subject.
