Celebrate Spring at Cheraw Festival in Cheraw,
SC
Thousands of visitors are expected in Cheraw, South Carolina April
4-6, 2003 for the 28th Cheraw Spring Festival. Named one of South
Carolina's most outstanding small town festivals, the weekend
showcases the town's beautiful antebellum historic district. Festivities
begin Friday, April 4 at 5pm with the Black Heritage Jubilation
on the historic Town Green.
Saturday features an Antiques Fair on the Green with dealers from several states, a Ham & Grits Breakfast, and a Fun Walk. Other Saturday only events include a canoe float at Cheraw State Park, puppet making, BBQ and a downtown children's fair with games and a petting zoo.
On both Saturday and Sunday, trolley rides through Cheraw's historic district, live bands, singers, dancers and clowns entertain the crowd. Visitors will be tempted with a variety of food from home baked treats to BBQ. The Cheraw Community Center will host over one hundred craftsmen, local artists in the Art Gallery, and a book sale. Saturday hours are from 10am-5pm, and Sunday's run from 12-5pm.
Both days will also feature a Civil War Living History camp at Riverside Park which includes a battle at 2pm. On Saturday night the Living History reenactors will produce dramatic scenes by lantern light. Tickets to these sell out Lantern Tours are available at the Park that morning. A church service from the era is held on Sunday as well.
A classic and antique car show downtown joins other festival events on Sunday. Judging begins at 1pm. Many festival events are free. Participation in the Fine Arts Show and Canoe float requires pre registration. In northeastern South Carolina, Cheraw is easily reached from 1-95 by US 52 or SC 9.
