Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features New Works by Duy Huynh
Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is proud to present new paintings by Duy Huynh from Mar. 5 through Apr. 30, 2004. Referred to as a "Rising Star" in Charlotte's local art scene, this is the first solo exhibition of Duy Huynh at Center of the Earth Gallery.
Many people have been exposed to the work of Huynh through his many murals that populate local fine dining establishments, stadium, YMCA, and other venues. This Vietnamese born artist has captured the hearts of Charlotteans with his whimsical and poetic paintings. Ethereal people populate magical atmospheric spaces that appeal to our imaginations and touch our emotions. As is with many artists, his work is an extension of his life. In mostly narrative paintings, which contain figurative references, he explores his Asian traditions as well as relationships and family experiences.
Huynh immigrated to the United States when he was six. His fascinating personal history began in a stranded refugee boat, which survived a perilous journey. His family was rescued by the Navy and taken to the Philippines. One year later his story unfolds as a Buddhist temple in Pomona sponsored the settlement of his family in California.
All of the quiet mystery that holds its arms out to the viewer in each Huynh painting reflects an eastern mood. The qualities of transcendence and freedom appeal to our western desires, but they are truly imbedded in the Asian psyche as part of the legacy of his inspiring cultural roots. Huynh brings us a taste of its richness and elevates our senses to its whispered message.
