Davidson College in Davidson, NC, Presents Works by Ray Kleinlein and Senior Studio Majors

The William H. Van Every Gallery at Davidson College in Davidson, NC, presents New Paintings by Ray Kleinlein, from Mar. 12 through Apr. 16, 2004. Also on view at Davidson's Edward M. Smith Gallery throughout the Spring Semester will be Senior Studio Majors Exhibitions.

Ray Kleinlein is Davidson College's 2002-2004 visiting member of the studio art faculty. His realistic oils transform the most mundane objects such as cardboard boxes, socks, and rolls of toilet tissue into intriguing tableaus.

A full color brochure accompanies this exhibition and includes an essay by K. Johnson Bowles, Director of the Center for the Visual Arts at Longwood College in Farmville, VA. She writes that Kleinleins works " . . . are a truly contemporary form of still life painting, born from his own unique manner of seeing his subject matter. In each painting a carefully selected object is elevated for contemplation. The object's exquisite characteristics exude from Kleinlein's paintings, which are grounded in education, choice of lighting, point of view, composition, palette, and brushwork. His works also pay homage to labor and to the notion of perfection as a worthy pursuit. The culmination of Kleinlein's study, talent, and labor is beautifully and profoundly evident in the works presented in this exhibition."
