Hilton Head Art League
on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Mary Ann Putzier
Watercolor artist, Mary Ann Putzier, is the featured artist at
the Hilton Head Art League's Gallery in Pineland Station on Hilton
Head Island, SC, from Mar. 16 through Apr. 10, 2004, with her
exhibit of watercolors titled Faces and Figures.
Putzier is known for her watercolors, especially her portraits
and floral subjects. "People are fascinating," she says,
"Portraiture and figures have always been my preferred focus.
It is challenging to try to capture a bit of the subject's personality,
to let them say something about themselves through my brush and
paint."
Another medium Putzier enjoys is porcelain painting. She holds
a Masters Degree in Art Education from the University of Minnesota/Mankato
and has taken extensive post-graduate studies. Her passion is
teaching. Putzier has taught art throughout most of her life,
stretching from preschoolers to teaching adults in both public
and private schools. Her travels, personal experiences and surroundings
inspire much of her subject matter for her paintings. Putzier
and her husband enjoy an active outdoor life and seek adventures
in far away places. "My life is like a mirror," she
says, "reflecting images that impress themselves upon my
personal looking glass."
Putzier has continued to study her art with masters like: Charles
Reid, Tom Lynch, Virginia Cobb, Frank Webb, Diane Maxey, Pat Dews,
Mel Stabin, Cheng-Khee Chee and others. Since she spends her summers
in Wisconsin and her winters on Hilton Head Island, she teaches
weeklong workshops at both location. Teaching is her real art
passion. Says Putzier, "I love to guide and inspire students
in finding their own unique, creative expressions." In addition
to teaching, commissioned projects are a big part of her work
focus.
The Hilton Head Art League is a not-for-profit organization dedicated
to promoting the visual arts in the community and enhancing the
art skills of its members. It operates a volunteer managed gallery
year round for the exhibition and sale of artwork by its members.
In addition it provides week-long workshops by nationally renowned
artists, as well as art classes at the Hilton Head Art League
Art Academy on Cordillo Parkway. To encourage young artists, the
League offers a scholarship every year to a high school student
pursuing a career in the visual arts.
