Sumter Gallery of Art in Sumter, SC, Presents
Oil Painters Invitational
For the 22nd year the National Bank of South Carolina is sponsoring
the NBSC Oil Painters' Open Invitational, on view at the
Sumter Gallery of Art in Sumter, SC, through Mar. 31, 2004. The
exhibit will travel throughout the state through 2004 under the
auspices of the SC State Museum's Traveling Exhibit Program.
"The National Bank of South Carolina is pleased to sponsor
the 21st Annual NBSC Oil Painters Open Invitational,"
says Robert N. Boykin, Jr. Senior Vice President for NBSC. "We
are excited about this year's sponsorship because we missed the
opportunity last year when the Gallery was relocating."
The juror for this year's show was Margie Stewart, adjunct professor
of art at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. Out of more than fifty
entries from artists from around the state she chose 31 pieces
to include in the exhibit.
The awards were announced at the opening of the exhibition. They
include: First place was awarded to Dennis Snell, of Sumter, for
his work Ephemeral Light Across Blue Ridge. Second place
went to Kaytee Esser, of Port Royal, SC, for her piece The
Three Sisters. Nancy Davidson of Mount Pleasant, SC, won third
place for Young at Heart.
Honorable Mention awards were given to Laura Spong of Columbia,
SC, Alvin Staley of Orangeburg, SC, and John Nelson of Bluffton,
SC.
"We are thrilled to have the chance to bring this important
show back to the Sumter Gallery of Art at its new location at
the Sumter County Cultural Center," says Executive Director
Susan Doherty Osteen. "NBSC's commitment to the arts has
made this exhibit possible for over two decades. We are grateful
for their continued support."
