Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC,
Features New Exhibitions
Theatre Art Galleries (TAG) in High Point, NC, offers four new
exhibits featuring works by Jeff Murphy, Cynthia Aldrich, Rod
Slate, and of area middle and high school students. All exhibition
will be on view through Apr. 16, 2004.
Selections from Leap of Faith and Ceremonial Spaces, is
an exhibit featuring stunning, complex digital images by Jeff
Murphy, Assistant Professor of Electronic Media at UNC- Charlotte.
The exhibit will be on view in TAG's Main Gallery.
Murphy earned his BFA from Ohio State and his MFA from University
of Florida. Last year, he was awarded a Summer Research Grant
to continue his series Ceremonial Spaces, including composite
images created from digital photographs of Mayan ruins. The series
Leap of Faith feature majestic architectural imagery from
travels in Italy. Murphy's solo exhibitions include being part
of the New Frontiers series at the Mint Museum of Art in
Charlotte, NC.
Durham, NC, sculptor, Cynthia Aldrich, will present a ceramic
installation entitled, Bearing Witness: Women Victims of War,
in TAG's upstairs Gallery B.
Aldrich received a BS in Chemistry from Allegheny College but
then extensively studied ceramics for the next several years.
She has been awarded Emerging Artist Grants from the Durham Art
Council. This installation is a tribute to all women who have
suffered in any war, at anytime, in-any place.
Photographs by Thomasville, NC, artist, Rod Slate, will show recent
work in TAG's Hallway Gallery.
TAG's Annual Student Show, artwork from twelve area middle
and high schools is featured in Kaleidoscope Youth Gallery. The
theme this year is "Autobiographical Stories" and TAG-into-the-Schools
artist, Nicole Arnold judges the show. Ribbons and art books are
awarded and certificates are given to all participants.
