An Appalachian Summer Festival in Boone, NC, Announces 2005 Season
An Appalachian Summer Festival, which
takes place at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, will
again celebrate the "fine art of summer" with an eclectic
array of music, dance, theatre and visual arts events scheduled
from July 1 - 30, 2005.
This multi-arts festival has been named for more than a decade
as one of the "top 20 events in the southeast" by the
Southeast Tourism Society, and is highly regarded for the breadth
and quality of its innovative artistic programs, as well as the
scenic beauty of its mountain setting- a combination which appeals
to residents and visitors alike.
Highlighting the festival season will be performances
by Lily Tomlin, Leahy, Paul Taylor Dance Company, the Eastern
Philharmonic Orchestra, pianist Peter Serkin, The Glenn Miller
Orchestra, The North Carolina Symphony, Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz
Band, Garth Fagan Dance, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The Broyhill
Chamber Ensemble, and the Outdoor Fireworks Concert featuring
the Legendary Lead Singers of the Temptations and the Sounds of
the Supremes.
The Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition, Halpert
Biennial Exhibition, and exhibition programs and workshops
presented by the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts comprise the
festival's dynamic offerings in the visual arts.
Tickets for all festival performances are on
sale beginning Mar. 1, 2005. Ticket prices are $18 - $25 for adults;
$10 - 16 for students;
and $5 - $10 for children age 12 and younger. "Arts Festival
Getaway" packages, combining lodging, festival tickets, restaurant
discounts and guides to the area's art-related attractions, are
also available.
