March Issue 2005
Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, Features Works by Joseph Cave
The Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island,
SC, will present a spring exhibition of works by Joseph Cave.
Opening on Apr. 29, the show will continue through May 31, 2005,
and will feature sixteen new oil paintings. Harbors, beaches,
and small towns of South Carolina are the inspiration for this
new body of work. Rich color and bold form created through lines
and shadows have become hallmarks of paintings by Cave, who was
trained as an abstract expressionist.
A native of Columbia, SC, Cave studied painting at the University
of Georgia (Athens) from 1954-58. He then went on to earn a BA
in Fine Arts in Painting at the San Francisco Art Institute. After
earning his Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking at
San Francisco State University, he taught at several institutions
including The Memphis Academy of Art, Southwestern at Memphis,
the San Francisco Art Institute, and San Francisco State University.
His landscapes and still-life paintings have been the subject
of numerous one-man shows throughout the United States and abroad.
Cave resides in Georgetown, SC, where he maintains a studio and
is represented by the Cheryl Newby Gallery.
