City of Charleston in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Gregory Brannock

The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, is presenting an exhibit of oil on canvas works by Hollywood, SC, artist, Gregory Brannock. The exhibit titled, Internal Landscapes, will be on view from Mar. 25 through Apr. 19, 2005.

Brannock did his undergraduate art studies in Washington, DC. In the early nineties, he began exhibiting in group exhibits. Since moving to Charleston in 19997, Brannock has continued exhibiting in group exhibits and has won numerous prizes. He has been in two Piccolo Spoleto exhibitions; he continues to exhibit in the Washington, DC, area; and at The Gallery in Beaufort, SC. In 2003 and 2004, Brannock taught abstract landscape classes at the Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston.

Brannock comments on his work: "One of the constants in my work over the last few years has been a subtle influx of landscape. I have always been preoccupied with space and the void and finding meaning within those realms. Whether the work is atmospheric or based in landscape imagery, the result is always the same and that being an intense combination of beauty and force. My work is a derivation of the forces of nature coupled with my own sense of place and time. A duality exists in my work which, as in life, is something that sustains me, and in finding the subtle nuances among contradiction provides me with an endless sense of amazement. To see not the true nature of something but the relationship that makes it as a whole."

The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre, established by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in 1978, is located in the historic Dock Street Theatre. The mission of the gallery is to exhibit the work of visual artists from the tri-county area, especially those engaged in serious contemporary and experimental work.
