March Issue 2005
Hayes George Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Presents an Exhibition of Landscapes
The Hayes George Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce, Land and Light, a group landscape exhibition by gallery artists Hiro Yokose, James Shay, James Jared Taylor and Bruce Park. The exhibition will be on view through Apr. 9, 2005.
Focusing on the beauty and power of nature,
each artist showcases his individual approach to landscape with
dramatic use of light and color. Traditional elements of water,
mountains, trees and sky appear in these contemporary paintings
and drawings.
A wall of eight-inch paintings by Japanese born Hiro Yokose encapsulates
his ability to render the romantic with an undeniably contemporary
voice. Each canvas is a quiet place for reflection surrounded
above and below by another image. The viewer feels as though they
have taken a journey through a romantic dream world.
James Shay's large-scale casein paintings envelop your senses.
His use of dynamic forms and strong line dominate the composition
- balanced only by an even bolder color pallet that complements
nature's abstract beauty.
James Jared Taylor's vibrant atmospheric skies make the land feel
almost secondary. The land is distilled to its purist form - the
horizon line. The presence of such a strong horizontal line allows
the viewer to become lost in the clouds, yet remain grounded in
the composition.
Using over forty layers of pastel, Bruce Park's
drawings depict the wonder of nature. Wide open spaces of land
and sky are revealed through subtle changes of color, reflected
light and playful clouds. Strong storms, blustery snowcapped mountains
and sun filled meadows all contain a sense of nature's harmony.
These are nationally recognized artists whose works are housed
in some of the nation's most important private and corporate collections
such as Boeing, Citibank, Exxon, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Texaco
and Sinclair Oil, as well as numerous museum collections throughout
the country. It is our privilege to exhibit these works in the
Southeast.
