Hilton Head Art League on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Ann White

An exhibition of one-of-a-kind functional pottery by Ann White will be held at the Hitlon Head Art League Gallery in Pineland Station from Mar. 1 - 26, 2005. This show will be concurrent with the shows of featured artists Alexandra Sharma and Uschi Niner.

White has been a professional potter for over 30 years and has traditionally focused on majolica glazed earthenware pots. She uses oxides, colored slips and stains to decorate her original hand-decorated pieces. "I have always been interested in repeat pattern and abstracted designs," says White. "My clay work often starts with smooth surfaces that I distress or break up into smaller images. Color mixed with these techniques is exciting and satisfying to me in the final pot."

Featured in this show are decorative platters, plates with various motifs, and bowls with pear, flower or fruit patterns. Also included are vases, large footed platters and serving pieces.

White is a graduate of the University of Michigan and has studied at RIT School for American Craftsmen, Rochester, NY. She has also studied extensively at Penland Craft School, Penland, NC. She and her husband are HHI residents since 1982. White's pottery may also be seen at Jacob Preston's Studio, Bluffton, SC; One-of-a-Kind, Charleston, SC; SC Artisan Center, Walterboro, SC ; and What's In Store on St. Helena's Island, SC.

The Hilton Head Art League is a not for profit membership organization dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the community and enhancing the art skills of its members.
