Spartanburg Artists' Guild in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Eula La Croix
The Spartanburg Artists' Guild in Spartanburg, SC, will present the exhibit, Light on the Landscape: Oils and Pastels, featuring paintings by Eula La Croix, in the Guild Gallery at the Spartanburg Arts Center, from Mar. 1 - 31, 2005.
A native of Kentucky, La Croix has lived in
the Carolinas since 1976. Although she studied art at Nazareth
College in Kentucky, at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, in workshops
and with private instructors, she is mainly self-taught. The current
exhibit features both pastels, the medium which she employed almost
exclusively for 15 years, and oils, a medium to which she returned
recently. La Croix currently works in both pastels and oils, specializing
in landscape painting.
"My intent is to express the beauty and drama of nature through
the effects of light on the landscape. I search for the essence
of a subject, the inner spirit. Each piece of work is a challenge
to delve more deeply within myself to express the emotional quality
of a particular subject and carry that through to the viewer,"
La Croix said of her work.
La Croix is a juried member of the Artists'
Guild of Spartanburg, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society
of America, a founding Lifetime Member of the Palette Club of
Louisville, KY, a member of the Art League of Henderson County,
NC, and she was awarded the designation of Member in Excellence
in the South Carolina Watercolor Society.
La Croix's paintings are included in corporate as well as private
collections in the US, Belgium and Germany. She has taught classes
and workshops for Parks and Recreation and Jefferson County Schools
in Kentucky and for the Spartanburg Museum School in addition
to her private classes and workshops.
