Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, Presents Figurative Art Works
The Wells Gallery in historic Charleston, SC, is honored to announce a figurative art show featuring works by America's most renowned as well as noted emerging artists: Gary Gowans, Glenn Harrington, Earl Bradley Lewis, Dan Cooper, Gary Grier and Kate Long. The exhibit will be on view from Mar. 4 - 18, 2005.
Gowans, Harrington, Lewis and Cooper are accomplished
artists and illustrators with years of experience in animation
and other fields.
Since 1990, Dan Cooper has worked at Walt Disney Feature Animations
on films, such as Aladdin, Lion King, Tarzan and Fantasia
2000, and recently, he received an award of excellence in
the 2004 National Oil Painters of America Show in Washington,
DC.
Gary Gowans' work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal.
He has also designed promotional logos and posters for the NBA
and The State of Florida.
Glenn Harrington's illustrations adorn over
300 books including Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice
and A Room with a View. For his exquisite works, Harrington
has been honored with the Silver Medal from the New York Society
of Illustrators.
E.B. Lewis's illustrations have appeared in 34 children books,
including Fire on the Mountain, I Love My Hair, The Bat Boy
and His Violin, and an award-winning book, Talkin' About
Bessie: The Story of Aviator Elizabeth Coleman. Coming on Home
Soon, written by Jacqueline Woodson and illustrated by Lewis
was awarded the Randolph Caldecott Honor, a prestigious award
in children's literature.
Kate Long and Gary Grier belong among Charleston's top emerging artists under 30. Long's artistic interpretation runs the gamut from impressionistic landscapes and abstract expressionism to representational realism and "drippy" figurative work. Grier's work has been featured in a number of juried exhibitions and shows throughout the United States, including The Art Directors Club Gallery, The Society of Illustrators Gallery, Rush Art Gallery, (Chelsea), the Definitive Art Gallery, DART Gallery and Nurture Art Baldwin Gallery.
