Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, Presents Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition
Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, presents Art Expo 2006, a juried exhibitio2n in the Catherine J. Smith Gallery, featuring a wide range of artworks by Appalachian students. The exhibition will be on view from Mar. 27 through Apr. 10, 2006. The artworks in the exhibition will be chosen by guest juror Leon Grodski, a multimedia artist, as well as the founder of LIFT Contemporary in Cherokee, NC.
The works included in Art Expo 2006 will be selected from numerous entries of artwork that will be put on display in Wey Hall on Mar. 3, 2006, from 10am-4pm. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
During the March 3rd event in Wey Hall, the juror will choose artworks for the exhibition in the Catherine J. Smith Gallery as well as decide monetary awards based on these categories: clay/glass; drawing; fibers; foundations/fundamentals/digital imaging; graphic design; metalsmithing; painting; photography; printmaking; and sculpture. Faculty and students will also have the opportunity to vote for the best work in each category listed above.
In keeping with this event being student-centered, numerous students have participated in the organizing of this event. Art management students Clare Evans, Taylor Leaf, and Megan Phillips have assisted with all facets of the exhibition and programming. Students from AIGA, National Art Educators Association and Student Art League have also contributed time and effort. In addition, the Exhibitions Practicum class collaborated with a Graphic Design 2 class to select a student artist to design publicity materials for Art Expo 2006. Cara Jackson created the designs that were chosen for the exhibition's logo, postcard, poster and other publications.
On Mar. 31, 2006, starting at 5:30pm, an awards ceremony and recognition of scholarships will take place. Patrick Ferrell will provide entertainment at the ceremony. The event is sponsored in part by the Art Department and the Office of Arts and Culture Programs.
