March Issue 2006
Clemson University in Clemson, NC, Features Works by Easton Selby and Warner Hyde
Clemson University in Clemson, NC, will present, Southern Comfort: Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition, on view in the Lee Gallery from Mar. 27 - 31, 2006. The exhibition includes photographs by Easton Selby and ceramics sculptures by Warner Hyde.
Hyde offers the following about his work: "I seek in the work a balance of control and of letting go. When saying the work speaks to my interests and values, I must expound as they are interwoven. The intoxicating atmosphere of wood firing favors the free and loose hand, encouraging a letting go of the Self Ego. The aesthetic of wood-firing appreciates the chance results where the life of the fire is pinnacled in fly ash, warps, tears, and scars."
"The philosophy of valuing such happenings reflects the maturity of the artist and viewers conscious. I see this state of being as positive to our impact on the world. The direct involvement with the forces of the fire as a learning partner results in a sincere beauty. A harmony is reached when I have given my life to the ceramic work and hand it over to fire, which in the end process, deposits its wisdom as beauty to the work."
Hyde continues, "As an active artist in the year 2005, it is my concern to communicate through clay, the ideals of working in harmony and respect with nature and its materials, as it has heightened my sensitivity to living. It is my intent through the warmth of the clay body, the fire, and the experiences documented within the final results presented, that these values and interests will radiate."
On Mar. 29, 2006, at 12:30pm, in the Lee Gallery will offer a Lunch and Learn, gallery walk with Easton Selby and Warner Hyde.
