Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Offers Annual Plein-Air Event

Coleman Fine Art will host four of the country's leading artists for a plein-air paint out in Charleston, SC, from Mar. 20-24, 2006, for the third annual WET PAINT. The group of artists will include Don Stone, N.A., George Strickland, John C. Traynor, and Mary Whyte. The artists will paint different locations in and around the Charleston area for one week.

Coleman Fine Art will bring these particular artists together from across the United States because they embody a diverse representation of the east and west coast plein-air painters in both style and medium.

Don Stone

Don Stone, N.A., will visit the Lowcountry from Monhegan Island, ME. Collectors recognize Stone's work by his expressive brushstrokes and choice of subject matter from his well-known marine paintings to the rural New England landscapes.

George Strickland

George Strickland, an artist from Tucson, AZ, is a signature member and past president of the Plein Air Painters of America. To Strickland, "paint, especially oil, has a beauty that stands on its own. Juicy strokes on a canvas combined with techniques such as layering, dry brush, and colors painted wet into wet can be very sensuous."

John C. Traynor

Painting outdoors on location is a primary source of inspiration for John C. Traynor's landscapes. Traynor is a member of the Hudson Valley Art Association, The Salmagundi Club of New York and currently lives with his family in New Hampshire.

Mary Whyte

Charleston artist, Mary Whyte, will continue to capture breathtaking scenes with her watercolor brush and paper. Whyte is most recognized for her watercolor portraits of the African-American Gullah culture from Johns Island, SC.

An opportunity to view the wet paintings on exhibit in the gallery will open on Mar. 24, where the artists will be present. The exhibit will remain on view until Apr. 8, 2006. Fresh works will be posted on the gallery's website at (www.colemanfineart.com) daily during the week.
