March Issue 2006
Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Robert Brown
Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will feature a solo exhibition of new paintings by Carolina native Robert Brown. The exhibit will be on view from Mar. 3 - 31, 2006.
A promising newcomer
to the Charlotte arts scene, Robert Brown works primarily in oils
and on location. His paintings reflect a refreshingly sincere
and distinct perspective of many regional landmarks. With this
extensive collection of work, Brown achieves a remarkable balance
of old and new aesthetics by combining his traditional plein air
technique with an approachable, yet modern design sensibility.
Brown's themes are both urban and rural, and evoke a life of slower
pace and an appreciation for the everyday experience. The familiar
appeal of his often modest subject matter is preserved and celebrated
in his intimately scaled paintings. The show resonates with tender
reverence for the charm and simplicity of some of Charlotte's
most beloved older neighborhoods and the surrounding rural, back
roads.
Brown's paintings are particularly relevant in both contrast and
tribute to our region's ever changing urban landscape. As this
is the artist's inaugural exhibition, the show offers a unique
opportunity for the discerning collector.
Born in 1954 in Anderson, SC, Brown attended undergraduate school at Appalachian State University and received his Master's degree from Wake Forest University. He studied art privately in Charlotte, Asheville, and Philadelphia and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 2002-2004. Brown currently resides in Kannapolis, NC.
Providence Gallery is
located at 601 Providence Road in the Manor Theatre Shopping Center.
This newly expanded exhibition space features work from a comprehensive
selection of local and regional artists.
