Robert Lange Studios Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by J.B. Boyd

Robert Lange Studios Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit Dimensions, featuring new work by renowned panoramic landscape artist J.B. Boyd, on view from Mar. 3 - 31, 2006.

After the success of Boyd's Africa Series last October, which received national recognition, he decided to create a new body of work showcasing his unique style of nontraditional compositions. Boyd, known for producing paintings with extreme proportions, has created some of his most dynamic work for this upcoming show, including paintings of the Lowcountry horizon that are 3-by-90 inches.

"J.B. stands among an elite group of artist whose work is both beautiful and somehow different then anything you've ever seen," said Robert Lange, artist and gallery owner. "He's a landscape painter who never really makes it about the landscapes."

Over the past few months Boyd has been creating the work for Dimensions using images taken over the past 5 years while in Africa, Wyoming, California, and Charleston. To achieve the elongated panoramics, Boyd takes multiple images of an area and then pieces them together with precise accuracy. Using oil as his medium, he then captures in paint the tranquility of life's transitory moments.

Two of the paintings created for the show depict the marsh between John's and Kiawah Islands, one of Boyd's favorite places to paint. Looking Down From the Bridge, is a painting that does exactly that, captures the Kiawah River from the bridge above. It measures an out of the ordinary 3-by-31 inches. Rhymes of an Hour, measuring 3-by-26 inches, captures the last of the sun catching the marsh and turning it a fiery orange.

Boyd studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and received a BFA from Tuft's University. He spent his first semester at Tyler School of Art in Elkins Park, PA, and has been painting seriously since he was sixteen.
