March Issue 2006
SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Pat Pilkington
WAKE UP!, a solo exhibition for Pat Pilkington featuring her recent paintings in a variety of media, will open at SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC on Mar. 10, 2006. Pilkington is a multitalented artist and will show new work done in oil, pastel and watercolor. The exhibition will run through Apr. 22, 2006.
Pilkington grew up in southeastern North Carolina with music and theater among her early passions. After marrying an actor, she moved with him to New York City and eventually relocated to the NC mountains when he joined the theater faculty at Appalachian State. Pilkington began painting after personal tragedy and serious illnesses propelled her to search for new life experiences.
Ever since Pilkington
first tried painting, she felt that she had come home and found
her true voice. She can't wait to get to her easel daily. As the
artist states, "The paintings are becoming more of a journal
of my life as I seek to tell about the people and places I come
across in my everyday world as well as my love for them. I'm not
after portraying the grandiose scene or the famous person, but
the loveliness, the joy, the pathos, the desperation, the humor
or personality of the everydayness of our lives."
For Pilkington, color is the lure-she imagines what palette will
best express her message. Then, she picks a medium and using lively
brushstrokes and her sense of light, her images emerge on the
canvas. For this exhibition, Pilkington will show oil landscapes
of the NC mountains. Delightful pastels of animals, including
one of an expressive llama, will also be shown. New pieces in
her abstracted figurative series done in oil with wax on canvas
will be on display, as well as recent watercolors.
Pilkington continues to study art and has taken workshops from many notable American artists, including Jim Crompton, Lois Griffel, Skip Lawrence, and Anne Templeton. She has exhibited in numerous juried exhibitions and her paintings are held in private and corporate collections throughout the southeastern United States.
