Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, Features New Exhibitions

Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, is presenting several new exhibitions including: Finding Grace, featuring recent paintings in TAG's Main Gallery by Jeremy Sams; American Landscapes, featuring large color photographs in TAG's Gallery B by Burton Whicker; Impressions from Here and There, feature watercolors by Edward C. Michener in TAG's Hallway Gallery; and 30th Annual Student Show, featuring works by students who attended TAG-into-Schools in the Kaleidoscope Youth Gallery. All these exhibits will be on view through Apr. 13, 2006.

Jeremy Sams

Ever since Jeremy Sams worked with TAG's "Together Art Grows" in the summer of 2003 to create the incredible "All Arts Together in High Point" mural at the Theatre, we have hoped to exhibit a solo show of his paintings. Sams' work is so popular and widely sold it has been difficult for him to accumulate enough work to fill the Main Gallery. But the time is here!

Showing great versatility, Sams has painted giant murals on water towers, High Point furniture showrooms, and a NC Zoo Mural at Wal-Mart. He also paints portraits, landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, and even tiny miniatures.

Burton Whicker

Burton Whicker is a photographer and co-owner of Tatum Toomey Whicker, one of the largest commercial photography studios in the country. He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and travels around the world specifically to photograph stunning sites.

Edward C Michener

Edward C. Michener, a master watercolorist and Pennsylvania native, graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art and worked as an Illustrator/Art Director running his own advertising business for many years. Michener has maintained an active career in the fine arts and has exhibited widely including: the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Watercolor Society Annual Shows, the Pennsylvania State Museum, and in Palm Beach.

The exhibition includes stunning watercolors showing scenes from his many travels here and abroad, Michener makes his home in High Point and West Palm Beach.

TAG is proud to sponsor the 30th Annual Student Show, an exhibition of middle and high school student art. The concept and the quality of the Annual Student Show helped inspire the creation of the Kaleidoscope Youth Gallery.

Once a year the Student Shows have featured outstanding examples of how area art teachers encourage the natural creativity of their students. TAG's Youth Gallery now exhibits children's art year round.

This year's show theme is "Art in the Moment". This was inspired by our fall outreach program, TAG-into-Schools, in which painter Bruce Shores visited area middle and high schools, discussing painting techniques while simultaneously demonstrating these techniques on a painting for the students. An artist "in action" thrilled these budding young artists. This year's participating schools are: Bishop McGuiness High School, Ferndale Middle School, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Ledford Middle School, Ragsdale High School, Southern Guilford High School, Southwest Middle School, Southwest High School, Thomasville High School, Weaver Academy, Wesleyan Education Center, and Westchester Academy.
