Catherine J. Smith Gallery in Boone, NC, Offers Selections From Online Project
Appalachian State University presents the exhibit, Learning To Love You More, at the Catherine J. Smith Gallery in Farthing Auditorium in Boone, NC. The exhibition is on view through Mar. 2, 2007, and will include work by Appalachian State University students and a selection of participants from around the world.
The exhibition includes a selection of submissions from the online project, Learning To Love You More. The conceptual project is comprised of participants' responses to assignments designed by artists and the project creators, Harrell Fletcher and Miranda July. Participants accept an assignment, complete it by following the simple but specific instructions, send in the required report (photograph, text, video, etc.), and see their work posted online. Works in the show were selected from the online projects and are composed of a variety of media including photography, drawing, video, audio and 3-D work.
Art management student Sara Gordon and gallery director Jody Servon organized the exhibition in the gallery. Servon and Gordon invited students and faculty to participate in the project by completing an assignment and submitting it to the gallery for the exhibition. Participants in the project include individuals from around the world who submitted to the website; a selection of these projects are installed on the first floor. Appalachian State University students and faculty member's assignments are installed on the second floor.
