Winston-Salem Delta Fine Arts, Inc. in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Anniversary Exhibit
Winston-Salem Delta Fine Arts, Inc., kicks off its 35th anniversary with an exhibition of works by contemporary artists. The show entitled, Celebration: 9 Artists, commemorates the 35th anniversary of Winston-Salem Delta Fine Arts, Inc. The exhibit, on view through Apr. 14, 2007, will feature paintings by Moe Brooker ,Tonya Ingersol, and Frank Wimberley; photography by Alex Harsley, LeRoy Henderson, Charles Martin, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe and John Pinderhughes; and installations by sculptor Colin Chase.
Artist Colin Chase will install his three sculptures: one breath at a time 1, Come Sunday and his installation Orinthology Suite, composed of steel, brass, wood, straw and thirteen North American bird sounds. Chase, who was born in Newark, NJ, received his MFA from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design and BFA from Cooper Union School of Art for Advancement of Science and Art, School of Art, New York, and his AAS from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York.
Chase's work has been included in one-person and group exhibitions including: Jamaica Arts Center, New York; Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, New York; The Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Neuberger Museum of Art, SUNY Purchase, New York. He is a former resident of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Long Island City, New York.
Also included in the exhibit will be works by painter Tonya Ingersol. Her large painting, Three Graces, is a highlight of the exhibit.
Tonya Ingersol
Ingersol received her MFA from Maryland Institute College, the Hoffenberger School of Painting. She has done post-graduate work at Vermont College of Norwich University, received her MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, a BA in Mathematics from Oberlin College, and a BM in Music Composition from Oberlin Conservatory.
Art Critic Dominque Nahas has said that, "Ingersol's use of allegory, myths and genre scenes has allowed her to sail with fascinating artistry between the Scylla and Charybdis of making socially aware paintings that might appear too blatantly political and making art too removed from the daily social struggles of enlightened black consciousness. The result is layered work suffused with vitality. Such art points to Tonya Ingersol as a painter of consummate skill who is intrigued with images that are found and shaped in our great and broad humanity."
Photographer Charles Martin received both his PhD and MA from Yale University. For several years, he studied photography at the School of Arts with Thomas Roma and JoAnn Walters at Yale University, where he also received a BA in English. Martin's work has been shown at the Galeria Lulu Lyon in Paris, France, City College of New York, Odon-Vido in Paris, France, and The Gordon Parks Gallery, College of New Rochelle. His work has been included in group shows at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Smithsonian Institute, and many public and corporate collections.
The nine artists included in Celebration are represented by the June Kelly Gallery, New York City.
