Halsey Gallery in Charleston, SC, To Host Young Contemporaries 2000 Exhibit
The William Halsey
Gallery of the School of the Arts at the College of Charleston
in Charleston, SC, will host the annual juried student art exhibition,
Young Contemporaries 2000 through Apr. 29. This year's
juror is Michele Rowe-Shields, Executive Director of the Southeastern
Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, NC.
From 1991-1999, Rowe-Shields served as Director of the Evanston
Art Center, Evanston, IL, where she curated over 80 exhibitions
showcasing regional and national art. Prior to 1991, she was Museum
Administrator and Curator of Exhibitions at Cranbrook Art Museum,
Bloomfield Hills, MI, and worked as Public Affairs Coordinator
at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. She received her BA
from Agnes Scott College and her MA in Art History from Southern
Methodist University.
The Studio Art Department at the College offers instruction in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and sculpture. Each spring, students at the College who have shown exceptional artistic ability are invited to exhibit in the professional setting of the Halsey Gallery.
Young Contemporaries 2000 offers the greater Charleston community a unique opportunity to view work produced by students from throughout the College.
Young Contemporaries is co-sponsored by the Halsey Gallery, the Department of Studio Art and the College of Charleston Visual Arts Club.
