Landscape Exhibitions by Jeremiah Miller & Daryl Knox and a High School Juried Show to be Shown at Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC
The Franklin B. Burroughs - Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC, features the works of Jeremiah Miller and Daryl Knox in a dual exhibit, on view from Apr. 8 through May 19, 2001. The Museum will also present a show of works by Horry and Georgetown County high school students from Apr. 8 through May 6, 2001.
Visual Solitude, a collection of oils shown by Miller, immediately captivates the viewer. His large-scale oil canvases depict solitary scenes form the Southeastern States. Miller is known for his bold use of vivid color. When viewed up close, the paintings seem abstract and expressionistic in technique. However, when the viewer steps back, the paintings reveal hidden details. The paintings are composed of rhythmic lines and large patches of bold color, often applied in a thick, textured way. Miller lives and maintains his studio in the foothills of NC. He is married to renowned violinist Sarah Johnson.
Daryl Knox will show his acrylics in an exhibition entitled, Serene Vistas, depicting small, tranquil coastal scenes. Knox, who resides in Charleston, SC, masterfully conveys the subtle nuances of solitary sunlit vistas. Lowcountry locations like James Island and John's Island have inspired his beautiful acrylics of marshes, creeks, palmetto trees and the ocean. Knox joins everything together to create scenes that convince the viewer to seek more solace in the images. This contrast of approaches to landscape images will provide a diverse look at the South.
In the Museum's Upstairs Gallery will be a juried exhibit of works by high school students from Horry and Georgetown County.
