Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Presents 3rd Annual New Realism Invitational
Center of the Earth Gallery, located in the NODA arts district of Charlotte, NC, is proud to present the 3rd Annual New Realism Invitational highlighting some of the nations leading realist painters from May 4 through June 30, 2001.
Realism has been embraced more fervently in the past decade as individuals search for a vision of the world that reflects contemporary life in all its poignancy.
Featured artists include favorites like Colorado
artist Scott Fraser, whose work was recently placed in the collection
of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Using everyday objects in playful
surreal settings sets, Fraser's work apart from purely highly
accomplished realist painters. Southeastern artist Dale Kennington's
Hopper-esque depictions of social gathering places like bars and
restaurants which speak of a loneliness amidst the crowds.
Maryland artist Carol Thompson paints in the style of the old
masters, depicting fruit and objects in a luxurious manner. Southern
artist Rebecca Fagg's use of light and shadow creates dramatic
imagery of landscape and interiors.
All of these artists are avidly collected all over the country.
The Gallery is currently showing, Forms
of Thought, featuring figurative, architectural and monolithic
ceramic sculptures by three extrordinary artists: Jun Kaneko,
Russell Biles, and J, Paul Sires. The exhibit is on view through
Apr. 28. The exhibit was organized in conjunction with the National
Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts' (NCECA) annual conference
held in Charlotte last month.
