Works by Linda McCane at Footlight Players Gallery in Charleston, SC
The Footlight Players Gallery at the Footlight Players Workshop Theatre in Charleston, SC, will feature paintings and monotypes by Linda McCane in an exhibit entitled, A Place on Earth, from Apr. 26 - May 13.
A six-year resident of Upstate, SC, McCane is a painter and printmaker who combines a love of color with a keen sense of observation.
McCane had the following to say about her exhibition: "Somebody once said, 'No one sees the same movie'. I think the same could be said about a landscape. In the same way that each of us responds to a film differently, a landscape painting evokes unique impressions and responses in each viewer. For landscapes seem to remind us of places we have been, or perhaps where we long to be. They draw us in with their sense of place. In a way, the appeal of landscapes is bittersweet, and it may even be a kind of homesickness. In these paintings and monotypes I have been exploring the simple beauty of knowing our place on earth".
Educated at the University of Illinois, Converse
College and the New York Studio School, McCane strives in her
work to capture not only what is seen but also to hint at what
is "beyond the glimpse". Her work, whether still life
or landscape, has a fresh and immediate impact, giving the viewer
a sense of form and light in a subtle yet powerful way.
The recipient of numerous awards, McCane is a member of the Artists
Guild of Spartanburg and a past president of the SC Watercolor
Society. After spending this summer painting in Italy her work
will next be exhibited at the Anderson County Arts Center in Oct.
McCane is represented by the Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC.
