April Issue 2002
Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Cecil Clemons
For the month of April, Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, will host an exhibit of works by Hendersonville painter Cecil Clemons. The theme of this show is inspired by motifs from Indian art of both North and South America. Interpretations of ancient murals and weavings, Incan clothing and head dresses are shown with Zopatec gold work and pottery. Acrylics, oil pastels and sometimes prismacolors are used.
Clemons says of her work: "My painting never tries to duplicate anything. Especially with the Indian pieces I try to honor the artisans of the original by putting down what sings to me personally."
