April Issue 2003
Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, Features Works by Clifton Parker
Exotic and strange beauty juxtaposed with intrigue in international locales is the topic of Clifton Parker's two-day art exhibit opening Apr. 18 and closing Apr. 19, 2003, at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC.
An International Collection of Freaks and Beauties will feature a "twisted portfolio" of Parker's photographs from travels around the world.
The two-day exhibit will be presented in the Bryan Art Gallery in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal. It's free and open to the public.
Expect to see such images as a beautiful woman spinning under a disco ball, a young Asian girl in traditional kimono, gazing serenely into the lens, the clasped hands of a Buddha statue, a temple, and a tattooed woman in shades of blue, among others.
Parker, a senior art major from Myrtle Beach, SC, studied visual and audio arts at the University of South Carolina and Tokyo Denki University as well as Coastal. He draws inspiration from the music and fashion industries and incorporates these into his work that has appeared in several galleries and publications throughout the southeast as well as publications in Tokyo.
"The essence of photography is about capturing a moment," said Parker in his artist statement. "It is about catching a fleeting emotion. It is not always about the technicalities of the medium providing the perfect photograph It is the unguarded nakedness of a moment."
