Elder Art Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Jon Nelson
Elder Art Gallery will bring a little bit of the South Carolina's coastal Lowcountry to its gallery in Charlotte, NC's South End District. Bluffton, SC, artist, Jon Nelson, will provide the backdrop for the occasion with his oil paintings. The exhibition which will be Nelson's first one-man show in the Charlotte area opens on Apr. 18 and will run through May 23, 2003.
Nelson was born in Queens, New York and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Hamilton College in Upstate New York. He earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Savannah College of Art & Design in the fall of 2001. He has been painting and enjoying the unique landscape of one of South Carolina's most beautiful areas for more than fifteen years.
Nelson uses the landscape of the South Carolina Lowcountry to express his emotional state of mind. "The rivers and salt marshes of the costal plains, subject as they are to the constantly changing tides, are ready metaphors to describe the ebb and flow of life's fortunes and the emotional reactions to these events" says Nelson.
Speaking of his work Nelson states "Life is about enduring and personal growth. Southern writer Ferrol Sams observed that wisdom is the effect of experience on intellect. My paintings attempt to express this process."
