Juried Fine Art and Craft
Show to be Presented at Historic Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island,
SC
The Art Market at Historic Honey Horn, a juried fine
art and craft show, is set for Apr. 25-27, 2003, on Hilton Head
Island, SC. The show is part of BRAVO - Celebrate the Arts!
Festival during the month of May each year. BRAVO
is a month-long celebration of our areas vibrant arts community
and diverse cultural heritage in partnership with the Hilton Head
Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
The Art Market, sponsored by the Coastal Discovery Museum, will be presenting 47 artists that work in clay, wood, fibers, metals, jewelry, watercolors, oil, mixed media and photography. All artists will have their items on display and available for purchase. The group of artists represents 12 states, coming from as far away as Pennsylvania, New York and Wisconsin. Artists submitted their entries through slides and were juried into the show in January by jurors representing the Hilton Head Art League and a local gallery.
On the evening of Apr. 25, there will be a Meet the Artists Party from 5-7:30pm at historic Honey Horn under trees that are over 100 years old. Admission to the party is $10 and you will have a chance to mingle with the artists, enjoy food and beverage, have the first opportunity to purchase before the show opens to the public, and watch as the judges present $5,000 in awards to the winners.
Serving as the Judge of this event will be David L. Deming. Deming is President of the Cleveland Institute of Art and has enjoyed a successful career both as a sculptor and as a teacher and arts administrator. One of his outdoor works was included in the American Sculpture Exhibition at the White House in the First Lady's Garden. His works are represented in over 100 private collections, as well as one sculpture appearing in the film Robo Cop. The Art Market will be honored to have Deming on Hilton Head Island for this event.
On Apr. 26 & 27, there will be art projects for children to participate in while their parents shop. Using recycled products and their imagination; the children will create animals of the lowcountry. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with this fun project for children of all ages.
Sat., from 10am-7pm, the show is open to the public as well as Sun., from 10am-5pm. There is a $2 parking fee, but admission is free. Honey Horn, a beautiful 68-acre site, is located off Highway 278, across from Gumtree Road, at the 3rd light on the island.
Food and beverages will
be available on site through Smokehouse and Pino Gelato.
